Specification
Jozef Murgaš (17. 2. 1864 – 11. 5. 1929) – a pioneer of radiotelegraphy, belongs to scientists and inventors of world format. With his inventions, he significantly contributed to the improvement of radiotelegraphic technology. During his tenure in Wilkes-Barre (USA, Pennsylvania), he obtained several patent rights for inventions. For their practical use, a joint-stock company was established in 1905, of which he was a shareholder. From its funds, he built a laboratory and had a test transmission and receiving station constructed in Wilkes-Barre. The first public broadcast took place on 25. 6. 1905. He transmitted and received wireless signals from a distance of 35 km. His new transmission principle caused a great stir at the time. He was a founding member of the Slovak League in America and co-author of its memorandum. During the First World War, he advocated for the creation of a common state of Czechs and Slovaks and promoted the equality of Slovaks within it.
Obverse side:
On the obverse of the coin is depicted the antenna mast of the wireless telegraphy signal in Wilkes-Barre, which Jozef Murgaš designed and with which he carried out the first successful transmission. The antenna mast is compositionally complemented by radio waves. At the edge of the coin is the inscription of the state name SLOVAKIA. In the center of the coin field is the year 2014, and to the left of it is the state emblem of the Slovak Republic.
Reverse side:
On the reverse of the coin is depicted a portrait of Jozef Murgaš, which is complemented by lines indicating the globe symbolizing the worldwide reach of his inventions. In the lower part of the coin field is the inscription of the name and surname JOZEF MURGAŠ. To the left of the portrait is the designation of the nominal value of the coin 10 EURO, and to the right of it are the birth and death years of Jozef Murgaš 1864 and 1929. The stylized initials of the name and surname of the coin's design author, academic sculptor Ivan Řehák "IŘ," and the mark of the Kremnica Mint are placed at the left edge of the coin.
