Habsburg coins

Coins from the Habsburg period represent a significant record of the political, economic, and artistic development of Central Europe. The mints issued by the rulers of the Habsburg dynasty are characterized by rich iconography – from portraits of rulers, such as Maria Theresa or Franz Joseph I., to state emblems and heraldic symbols of the monarchy.

Their minting took place in important mints, including especially Kremnica and Vienna, with individual issues reflecting contemporary reforms, monetary changes, and extraordinary events, such as the Revolutions of 1848-1849. Habsburg coins are today a valuable source for numismatics, as they document the continuity and transformations of one of the most significant dynasties in European history.
