Specification

Juraj Turzo (2. 9. 1567 – 24. 12. 1616), politician, diplomat, anti-Turkish fighter, scholar, cultural and religious patron, was one of the most influential magnates of Hungary at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. He was the hereditary count of the Orava county and the owner of the Orava, Lietava, Bytča, and Tokaj estates. He participated in numerous anti-Turkish campaigns, diplomatic negotiations, and was an advisor to Emperor Rudolf II. In 1609, he was elected palatine, the highest-ranking secular official in the Kingdom of Hungary. Throughout his life, he was involved in spreading education and supporting the evangelical faith. In his residential town of Bytča, he completed the reconstruction of the manor house, built the Wedding Palace, a church, developed the town, and financed a school that achieved an extraordinary level. He also supported the publication of books and various prints. Under his patronage, the Žilina Synod took place in 1610, which laid the foundations of the evangelical church in Upper Hungary.


Obverse side:
On the obverse of the coin is depicted Juraj Turzo on horseback. Behind him is a period depiction of Lietava Castle from a bird's eye view. The state emblem of the Slovak Republic is at the right edge of the coin field. The name of the state SLOVAKIA and the year 2016 are inscribed at the edge of the coin. The mark of the Kremnica Mint MK is on the left side of the coin field. Below it are the stylized initials of the name and surname of the coin's design author Mgr. art. Peter Valach PV.

Reverse side:
On the reverse of the coin is depicted a portrait of Juraj Turzo, which is complemented in the right part of the coin field with elements from his historical coat of arms. At the edge of the coin is inscribed the name and surname JURAJ TURZO. Below the name is the birth year of Juraj Turzo 1567 and below the surname the year of his death 1616. The designation of the nominal value of the coin 10 EURO is in two lines in the lower left part of the coin field.
