Specification
The year 1995 was declared by the Council of Europe as the Year of European Nature Conservation (European Nature Conservation Year - ENCY 1995). This continues the long-standing tradition of spreading the idea of environmental care. Slovakia became a member of the Council of Europe on 30.6.1993. In this year, the Slovak Committee for ENCY 1995 was also formed. In August 1994, the government of the Slovak Republic approved the Nationwide Program ENCY 1995. Slovakia aligns itself with the ideals and message of this pan-European campaign, which aims to remind the importance of nature conservation and to activate not only a narrow circle of conservation organizations but the entire society. Within the Nationwide Program ENCY 1995 for Slovakia, several projects were implemented - mapping, rescue and restoration of wetlands, protection of ecologically significant habitats, greening of cities, towns, and school areas, revitalization of the river network, and many others.

Obverse:
In the lower part of the coin field, a woodpecker feeding a chick is depicted. Above it is the national emblem of the Slovak Republic and an inscription in an open circle "YEAR OF EUROPEAN NATURE CONSERVATION". At the bottom edge of the coin is the name of the state "SLOVAK REPUBLIC" and the year of minting.

Reverse:
On the coin field, motifs of flora - marsh devil, floating anchor, and wild vine, and motifs of fauna - swallow, black stork, and white stork in reeds are gradually depicted. At the bottom edge is the nominal value.
