In the first third of the 16th century, Hungary was threatened by devastating Turkish raids. After the tragic battle of Mohács in 1526, the Turks quickly advanced into the country. After occupying the capital city of Buda, the Hungarian Diet decided in 1536 that the capital and coronation city of Hungary would be Pressburg (today's Bratislava). Between 1563 and 1830, 11 monarchs and 8 royal consorts were crowned in the Gothic St. Martin's Cathedral. The king was usually crowned by the highest ecclesiastical dignitary of the country – the Archbishop of Esztergom, assisted by other ecclesiastical and secular dignitaries. As the sixth of the Hungarian kings, Leopold I, son of Ferdinand III, was crowned in Pressburg on June 27, 1655, as a barely 15-year-old prince. During his long reign, which lasted until his death in 1705, the Turks were expelled from Hungary, and the dominance of the Ottoman Empire definitively ended.

Obverse:
On the obverse of the coin, on the left side, there is a period depiction of Bratislava with St. Martin's Cathedral and Bratislava Castle, under which is a ribbon with the year of minting 2005. In the upper right part of the coin is the national emblem, and below it is the designation of the nominal value. The name of the state SLOVAK REPUBLIC is inscribed along the bottom edge of the coin. The stylized initials of the designer Mária Poldaufová MP and the mint mark mW are above the ribbon at the left edge of the coin.

Reverse:
On the reverse of the coin, in the center of the coin field, in a circle evoking a coronation medal, is depicted a portrait of King Leopold I with a laurel wreath on his head. Around the portrait is a Latin text with the royal coronation motto CONSILIO ET INDUSTRIA (With deliberation and diligence) at the top and the name and title of the Hungarian king at the bottom. Around the portrait, in an interesting composition, is the text CORONATION OF LEOPOLD I. BRATISLAVA and the year of coronation 1655.
