The Jubilee Year 2000 represents a significant milestone in the history of mankind, being the last year of the twentieth century and simultaneously the last year of the second millennium. It is also a "magical year" in which all the digits of the year change.
The Christian world is preparing to celebrate this unique anniversary primarily as the two-thousandth anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ. His message of sacrifice and love remains relevant and, with its universal human content, appeals not only to Christians but also to adherents of other religions and people without faith. The turn of the millennium also offers an opportunity to recall historical milestones in the history of nations and all of humanity, providing a chance to reflect on the future, which will be significantly influenced by the spiritual and cultural level of humanity, its ability for mutual assistance, cooperation, understanding, and tolerance.

Obverse:
On the obverse of the coin, on the wings of the Greek goddess of victory Nike, are depicted personalities and attributes of decisive events in the history of the territory of Slovakia up to its rise to its own statehood with the Latin inscription "QUID DURAT VINCIT" (He who endures wins). At the bottom edge are depicted Celtic coins symbolizing the advanced culture that had already created organized urban settlements in the territory of Slovakia before Christ and persisted here until the 2nd century. This is followed by the arrival of the mission of the apostles St. Cyril and St. Methodius (863), accepted by Prince Rastislav, associated with the deepening of Christianization in Great Moravia, the creation of the first Slavic script, the establishment and development of Old Slavonic literature, Slavic culture, and the building of an independent church province. The territory of Slovakia was part of Hungary for several centuries, initially as a separate principality, expressed by the Hungarian crown in the middle part of the relief. Above it are the leading personalities of the national movement Ľudovít Štúr, Jozef Miloslav Hurban, and Michal Miloslav Hodža. Their involvement in the national emancipation process culminated in the codification of the standard Slovak language (1843), the creation of the first national political program, the Slovak National Council (1848), and the Slovak Uprising 1848 - 1849, the first armed uprising of Slovaks for the recognition of national identity, for equal status in the Hungarian state, for civil rights and freedoms. The state emblem at the top symbolizes the establishment of the independent Slovak Republic (1993).

Reverse:

On the reverse of the coin are depicted fragments of typical architectural elements of Christian architecture from various historical periods. In its background is centrally placed the figure of Christ with outstretched arms, evoking the idea of a prophetic and simultaneously all-embracing gesture. The figure also suggests the shape of a cross, one of the fundamental symbols of Christianity. At the bottom of the coin is placed the Bethlehem star indicating the place of Christ's birth. Below it is the Latin year of minting "AD MM" (in the year of our Lord 2000).
