Ivan Krasko (real name Ján Botto, 1876 – 1958) is one of the canonical poets of Slovak literature. His two poetry collections – Nox et solitudo (Night and Solitude, 1909) and Verses (1912) – were a breakthrough in the development of Slovak poetry and the beginning of the formation of its modern line. He devoted himself to writing from his student days in Brașov and Prague and later alongside his profession as a chemical engineer in the Czech lands, albeit only for a relatively short time. After 1912, he wrote only sporadically. He was on the front of World War I, and after the establishment of Czechoslovakia in 1918, he entered state service, becoming a deputy and senator of the National Assembly. He understood artistic creation as a confession and revelation of his inner self, portraying not only intimate lyrics but also existential crises of faith and knowledge. Another group includes socially and nationally engaged poems with themes of rebellion and revolt. As a leading representative of Slovak modernism, Krasko brought contemporary modernist life attitudes and perceptions of the world into his verses.
Obverse:
On the obverse of the collector euro coin, a raven is depicted in composition with a cloud and a strong stream of rain falling on a cross to the right of the raven. In the left part of the coin field, the name of the state SLOVAKIA and the nominal value 10 EURO are inscribed, separated by a graphic mark and bordered on the inner side by a graphic line. Above the raven is the facsimile of Ivan Krasko's birth name – Ján Botto. In the right part of the coin field is the year of issue 2026, below which is the state emblem of the Slovak Republic. To the right of the raven are the mark of the Kremnica Mint, a state enterprise, consisting of the abbreviation MK placed between two dies, and the stylized initials PV of the collector euro coin's author Mgr. art. Peter Valach.
Reverse:
On the reverse of the collector euro coin is a portrait of Ivan Krasko. To the right of him are the birth and death years 1876 and 1958 in two lines. The portrait divides the inscribed name IVAN and surname KRASKO, which are partially bordered by a graphic line.
