Banknote Hungary 5000 Forint 2016 Release Date: 01.03.2017 Pick: New Quality: UNC IMAGE FOR ILLUSTRATION PURPOSES ONLY! Description: The Hungarian central bank issued new banknotes of 2,000 and 5,000 forints on March 1, 2017, although they were declared legal tender as of November 15, 2016. Existing old banknotes of the same denominations will circulate concurrently until July 31, 2017, after which they will be withdrawn but not demonetized until July 31, 2037. A new 1000 forint banknote is planned for the second half of 2017. On the obverse side of the banknote is a portrait of the Hungarian nobleman, politician, and national awakener István Széchenyi. Lajos Kossuth later referred to him as the greatest Hungarian.
