Polish banknote - 50 Zloty with Pope John Paul II
Unavailable
The first collector's banknote of the Polish National Bank featuring Pope John Paul II with a denomination of 50 Zloty. Each banknote is individually packaged in a paper cover. The banknote is unperforated in UNC quality. On the front side of the banknote is a portrait of John Paul II, holding his pastoral cross. In the background is a globe, symbolizing the universal nature of the pontificate. The Pope is wearing his pontifical robe, demonstrating his greeting gesture. In the bottom right is the following text: JAN PAWEL II and the duration of his pontificate: 16 X 1978 - 2 IV 2005. The back side of the banknote depicts an episode from the Holy Mass during the solemn inauguration of John Paul II's pontificate and illustrates the extraordinary relationship between the Pope and Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski. When the Cardinal paid tribute to the Pope, John Paul blushed and made a memorable gesture to express his respect for the Primate of Poland. Banknote author: Andrzej Heidrich
