Silver Slovak 10 euro coin themed Benedictine Abbey in Hronský Beňadik

History and numismatics enthusiasts have something to look forward to! In March 2025, the Slovak National Bank plans to issue another unique silver coin with a nominal value of 10 euros, celebrating one of the oldest and most beautiful historical monuments in Slovakia, the Benedictine Abbey in Hronský Beňadik – the 950th anniversary of its founding. The coin is intended not only for collectors but also for everyone who appreciates Slovakia's cultural heritage.

In April 2024, the National Bank of Slovakia announced a public anonymous competition to create an artistic design for a silver collector's coin with a nominal value of 10 euros, which will be dedicated to the 950th anniversary of the founding of the Benedictine Abbey in Hronský Beňadik.

Five designs were submitted to this competition by five different authors. The committee for evaluating artistic designs of commemorative and collector euro coins assessed these designs in July 2024. The author of the winning design was eventually Tomáš Lamač, DiS.

Unique design depicting the interior of the monastery

The obverse of the coin captures a beautiful view into the interior of the monastery church, which is a symbol of medieval architecture and Slovakia's spiritual wealth. On this side, we find details of Gothic arches, a majestic cross, and a vaulted ceiling, which faithfully capture the splendor of the monastery's interior. The coin also features the Slovak national emblem, reminding us that this cultural monument is part of our heritage.

Iconic exterior of St. Benedict's Abbey

The reverse of the coin presents an iconic view of St. Benedict's Abbey in Hronský Beňadik, complemented by the figure of Saint Benedict, who is the patron of this place. On this side, the monastery is depicted in all its beauty, with medieval architecture and surroundings that recall the rich history of this place.

Why is this coin so interesting?

This silver Slovak coin is not only a beautiful collector's piece but also a reminder of important historical values and cultural traditions. Every detail on the coin was designed to highlight the significance of St. Benedict's Abbey, which was founded as early as 1075 and served as a spiritual and cultural center for centuries.

Limited edition that cannot be missing from your collection

The silver collector's 10 euro coin will be issued in both regular and proof quality in a limited number, making them even more attractive to numismatists. For collectors, it is a unique opportunity to acquire a piece of Slovak history, which may gain not only collector's but also historical value over time.
