Franz Joseph I (1848-1916)

Franz Joseph I was the Austrian Emperor and Hungarian King who reigned from 1848 to 1916. During his long reign, the monarchy underwent many changes, including the formation of Austria-Hungary in 1867. His name is also associated with the period before World War I and the effort to keep the large multi-national empire together.
