Specification
The Tatra, which no monument today would call anything other than the "eight", was produced from 1936 to 1950. During this period, it was a vehicle that dazzled the world of the time with its performance, concept, and beautiful shapes. Despite the fact that today's modern cars have long surpassed the "eight", this car has fascinated motor enthusiasts, as well as artists, architects, and all those who can find harmony and beauty in technology, for decades.
It is a typical example of the advanced and progressive industry of pre-war Czechoslovakia, and its arrival on the automotive market caused a stir not only with its typical stabilizing fin-shaped area on the rear hood but also with its characteristic three headlights on the front grille, covered rear wheels, and compact body.
Compared to the contemporary motoring world, it was a completely different concept. The vehicle had an eight-cylinder, air-cooled engine with a capacity of 2,968 cm³ located behind the rear axle, which, thanks to its excellent properties in combination with the aerodynamic body, could lend the vehicle a speed of up to 160 km/h, with a consumption of only 12.5 l. It was intended for users from the middle class, as it provided comfortable travel considering the size and equipment of the interior.
The use of this vehicle for an expedition was completely unique, which has entered the heart of perhaps every boy or person with a desire to discover new and unexplored things. Those who remember will surely recall the fascinating adventure of engineers Hanzelka and Zikmund during their three-year journey through Africa and South America, which they undertook precisely with the Tatra 87 car, and that in a completely serial version.
A total of 3,023 pieces were produced, which were exported to many countries around the world, such as South Africa, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, France, the Netherlands, Hungary, Germany, Austria, Romania, the Soviet Union, and Sweden.
