The medal commemorates the 100th anniversary of the minting of the Czechoslovak five-haler coin from 1924. The establishment of Czechoslovakia on October 28, 1918, led to the necessity of monetary reform, which was undertaken by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Alois Rašín. Professor Otakar Španiel submitted models for the five-haler, two-haler, and ten-haler coins on May 29, 1922, and after adjustments, the model for the five-haler received approval for serial minting. On August 7, 1922, the Kremnica Mint confirmed the suitability of the models, and on February 24, 1923, the ministry approved large-scale production. By the end of 1923, 40 million pieces had been minted, of which 2.2 million were delivered to the banking office in 1924. The five-haler coin from 1924 is today considered the rarest Czechoslovak circulating coin, which increases its attractiveness among collectors. The unclear reason for minting and the exact number of pieces minted contribute to its cult status.
