On May 13, 1917, the Virgin Mary appeared for the first time to three shepherd children – ten-year-old Lucia, nine-year-old Francisco, and seven-year-old Jacinta – in the Cova da Iria valley near the Portuguese town of Fatima, above a small oak tree. She came dressed in a white, shining garment. She told the children that she came from heaven and wanted them to come here on the thirteenth day of each month for six consecutive months.
The Virgin Mary gradually entrusted them with three messages. In the first, she showed them hell and urgently requested that all people amend their ways, for if they do not stop offending God with sins and harming each other, another war, worse than the ongoing one, will come. In the second, she speaks of Russia, which will spread terrible errors throughout the world, and many righteous people will be persecuted. These will be very difficult times. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to the Immaculate Heart of the Virgin Mary, the country will eventually convert, and days of peace will come to the world. The third message remained a secret for a long time and was only revealed in 2000. The key word of this message is a triple call to repentance. The messages of Our Lady of Fatima are full of maternal love. They show humanity the way to walk towards holiness. Repentance is the only way to moral correction. The Fatima messages urge us to trust in Jesus' promise: "In the world you have tribulation, but take courage, I have overcome the world!" (Jn 16:33)
On the sheet, there is a depiction of a procession with the statue of Our Lady of Fatima and on the edge the "centenary" logo, below it the symbols of Fatima: the crown of the statue of Our Lady, the Immaculate Heart of the Virgin Mary, the holy rosary, and the oak of the apparition.
