In 2021, Monnaie de Paris launched a series focused on literary styles and authors who have marked literary history in France and abroad. After celebrating poetry in 2021, theater in 2022, and adventure novels in 2024, Monnaie de Paris in 2025 honors the sci-fi author: Jules Verne, on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of his death.

On the obverse of the coin, Phileas Fogg is in the foreground in his hot air balloon, accompanied by Jean Passepartout, his faithful French valet, and Mrs. Aouda, the young widow he saved. Several elements help place the work in context, especially Big Ben, symbolizing the starting and ending point of this adventure. The watch at the top illustrates the urgent nature of the journey and emphasizes that Phileas Fogg is racing against time to win the bet. The author's name, the title Around the World in 80 Days, and the year of issue are located around the edge of the coin.

The reverse side is common to the entire series Art of the Quill. It features several iconic quotes, such as Voltaire's "Le mieux est l’ennemi du bien", Dante Alighieri's "Lasciate ogne speranza voi ch'intrate", William Shakespeare's "To be or not to be: that is the question" or Nietzsche's "Was mich nicht umbringt, macht mich starker". In the center of the coin is an engraved feather, and below it is the name of the series. At the bottom of the coin is the abbreviation RF along with the hallmark of Joaquin Jimenez and the engraving workshop.
