In 2021, Monnaie de Paris launched a series focused on literary styles and authors who have marked literary history in France and abroad. After celebrating poetry in 2021, theater in 2022, and adventure novels in 2024, Monnaie de Paris in 2025 honors the sci-fi author: Jules Verne, on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of his death.

The obverse side contains symbolic elements from the novel Vingt mille lieues sous les mers (Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea), which evoke the underwater world as Verne imagined it. Captain Nemo aboard the famous ship Nautilus is in the center, behind the tentacles of a giant squid. Under the shark, three divers swim in search of treasure. In the background, the wreck of an ancient ship symbolizes the underwater adventures of the characters. At the top, the title of the novel Vingt mille lieues sous les mers (Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea) is engraved, and at the bottom left and right is the year of issue and the author's name.

The reverse side is common to the entire series Art of the Quill. Several iconic quotes can be read from them, such as Voltaire's "Le mieux est l’ennemi du bien", Dante Alighieri's "Lasciate ogne speranza voi ch'intrate", William Shakespeare's "To be or not to be: that is the question" or Nietzsche's "Was mich nicht umbringt, macht mich starker". In the center of the coin is an engraved quill, and below it is the name of the series. At the bottom of the coin is the abbreviation RF along with the hallmark of Joaquin Jimenez and the engraving workshop.
