In 2026, Monnaie de Paris celebrates the 50th anniversary of the first commercial flight of Concorde. The famous supersonic aircraft was commercially launched on January 21, 1976, with two simultaneous flights from the partner countries that developed it: France and Great Britain. The aircraft that took off from Paris flew to Rio via Dakar, while the one that took off from London flew to Bahrain. Concorde, a true technological jewel, a symbol of modernity, and still a holder of speed records in commercial flights, was nevertheless not commercially successful and was retired from service in 2003. This collection, created in collaboration with comic artist Romain Hugault, immortalizes Concorde amidst its most iconic destinations: New York and Rio.

On the obverse of the coin, there is a depiction of Concorde from above in the center of the composition. Instead of its right delta wing stands the Eiffel Tower, which, with its shape reminiscent of the supersonic aircraft, perfectly matches it. The fusion of these elements recalls the nationality of Concorde and the place of its first takeoff. On both sides of the central motif, vertical lines evoke the lightning speed of the aircraft. The words "50 ans de la mise en service du Concorde," meaning "50 years since the commissioning of Concorde," and the year of issue complete the design.

The reverse side of this coin highlights the most prestigious destinations served by Air France's Concorde: New York and Rio. The design depicts Concorde flying at full speed over the bay of Rio, recognizable by Corcovado in the background and Sugarloaf Mountain. Above the aircraft, New York is symbolized by the face of the Statue of Liberty, dominating the iconic Manhattan skyline from the late 20th century, where the Twin Towers can be seen. The design is completed by the nominal value and the letters RF.
