On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the release of the first chapter of Peter Jackson's trilogy in cinemas, Monnaie de Paris will present in 2026 a collection of rare coins dedicated to the legendary series The Lord of the Rings.

From the Shire to Mordor, the dangerous journey of the Fellowship of the Ring is now engraved in metal, celebrating the mythical saga that has become a true pillar of the fantasy genre.

The engravings on these coins were created by the chivalric workshop at Monnaie de Paris based on illustrations from the visual style guide to the film The Fellowship of the Ring.

This coin represents the beginning of our heroes' adventures. On the obverse, led by Gandalf the Grey, the benevolent leader and protector of the Fellowship of the Ring, they leave the peace of the Shire (which can be seen on the map of Middle-earth in the background). They meet elves, legendary beings who join them in their quest to destroy the One Ring, represented here by Arwen. Their journey quickly takes a dramatic turn at the story's turning point, before the mythical gates of Moria, where Gandalf the Grey disappears and the Fellowship is scattered.

At the bottom of the design, the words "The Fellowship of the Ring" and the year complete the design.

The reverse side of this coin depicts the One Ring, towering over Sauron's Eye and enhanced with selective gilding. The secret inscription on the Ring in Elvish is revealed here by the flames of Mount Doom. Each reverse side is engraved with the nominal value of the coin, the hallmarks of Monnaie de Paris, the letters RF (French Republic), the year 2026, and the copyrights of New Line Production concerning The Lord of the Rings saga.
