On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the release of the first chapter of Peter Jackson's trilogy in cinemas, Monnaie de Paris will present in 2026 a collection of rare coins dedicated to the legendary Lord of the Rings series.

From the Shire to Mordor, the dangerous journey of the Fellowship of the Ring is now engraved in metal, celebrating the mythical saga that has become a true pillar of the fantasy genre.

The engravings on these coins were created by the knightly workshop at Monnaie de Paris based on illustrations from the visual style guide of the film The Two Towers.

The design of this coin takes the form of a battle between two forces present in this second installment. On one side is the wizard Saruman, who betrayed the cause of men to join his new master Sauron. His growing power and extensive influence over human nations is represented by the tower of Orthanc, the seat of his supernatural experiments, where he himself creates an army capable of destroying men. On the other side is Aragorn, who throughout the story sheds the guise of Strider, the Ranger, to take on the role of a war leader. He emerges as a unifying force and rallies the people of Rohan (located on the map of Middle-earth in the background) to resist the threat of Saruman's army.

The obverse of this coin depicts the One Ring, towering above Sauron's eye and enhanced with selective gilding. The secret inscription on the Ring in Elvish is revealed here by the flames of Mount Doom. On each reverse side, the nominal value of the coin, the hallmark of Monnaie de Paris, the letters RF (French Republic), the year 2026, and the copyrights of New Line Production concerning the Lord of the Rings saga are engraved.
