At the end of the 1960s, a nationwide movement for the democratization of the communist regime developed in Czechoslovakia, which was watched with concern by the Soviet leadership. At the beginning of August 1968, at a meeting of representatives of communist countries in Bratislava, a declaration was adopted stating that "the protection and strengthening of socialist achievements are a common international duty of all socialist countries." At the same time, the so-called invitation letter was handed over to the leadership of the CPSU, which was supposed to give the planned military intervention an appearance of legitimacy. The invasion of troops from several Warsaw Pact states took place from August 20 to 21, 1968. Three hundred thousand foreign soldiers and over six thousand tanks and combat vehicles invaded the territory of the state. The intervention halted the reform process and began a period known as normalization. The occupation of the CSSR resonated worldwide, and the spontaneous resistance of the population was captured by domestic and world media.

Obverse side:
On the obverse of the coin, there are barriers of barbed wire with the number 68 in the background, symbolizing the period of normalization after the invasion of Warsaw Pact troops into Czechoslovakia in August 1968. The state emblem of the Slovak Republic is at the top of the coin field, the name of the state SLOVAKIA and the year 2018 are at the bottom of the coin field. Below them is a horizontal line and the designation of the nominal value of the coin 10 EURO. The mark of the Kremnica Mint is to the left of the state emblem of the Slovak Republic, and to the right are the stylized initials of the author of the coin's design, prof. Mgr. art. Patrik Kovačovský PK.

Reverse side:
On the reverse of the coin is depicted a fragment of a photograph by Ladislav Bielik "Man with a bare chest in front of an occupation tank" in the background, supplemented by the number 50 and the inscription "anniversary," which express the 50th anniversary of the invasion of Warsaw Pact troops into Czechoslovakia. At the top of the coin field is the inscription AUGUST 1968.
