To his right stands Prime Minister Alcide de Gasperi, to his left Umberto Terracini, president of the constituent assembly of Italy. Above them is the inscription "COSTITUZIONE" and the monogram of the Italian Republic "RI". At the bottom is the inscription "CON SICURA COSCIENZA", "R", the mint mark in Rome, and the dates "1948 • 2018", the first indicating the year the Italian Constitution came into force and the second marking the year the coin was issued. The outer ring of the coin features twelve stars of the European Union flag.
