During its construction, the longest railway bridge on the Morava River (476 m) and one of the first longer tunnels in Europe (703.6 m) were built. To ensure traffic management between Gänserndorf and Bratislava, the first telegraph connection in Slovakia was established. The first train pulled by a steam locomotive arrived in Bratislava on August 20, 1848. The opening of this railway line laid the foundations for the emergence of railways in Slovakia and created conditions for connecting Bratislava with the entire future railway system in Europe.
