Specification
Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav (2.2.1849 - 8.11.1921) - poet, playwright, and translator, is among the most significant figures of Slovak literature. Through his work, he laid the foundations of modern Slovak poetry.
He is the author of broadly conceived cycles of reflective, natural, civic, and intimate lyric poetry (Psalms and Hymns, Spring Walks, Summer Walks, Shoots, Echoes, Bloody Sonnets) and epic compositions that depict the life of village people and Slovak gentry (The Gamekeeper's Wife, Ežo Vlkolinský, Gábor Vlkolinský). A separate circle in his work is formed by biblical epics, socially and philosophically updating biblical themes (Agar, Rachel, Cain, Christmas, Solomon's Dream). His most significant dramatic work is the tragedy Herod and Herodias with a deep philosophical content, representing one of the peaks of Slovak dramatic creation. Hviezdoslav's masterful translations of works from world literature are also of extraordinary importance.

Obverse:
On the obverse of the coin, a stylized female face is depicted in suggestion, created by tree crowns and stars. The name of the state SLOVAK REPUBLIC, given in the description, is divided at the top edge by the state emblem, on the sides of which is the divided year of minting 1999. At the bottom edge of the coin is the designation of the nominal value.

Reverse:
On the reverse of the coin is depicted a portrait of Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav, around which is the description of the year 1849, indicating the year of his birth, the inscription PAVOL ORSZÁGH HVIEZDOSLAV, and the year 1921, indicating the year of his death.
