The Slovak Philharmonic, a significant artistic institution, representative and promoter of Slovak musical culture, was founded in 1949. Since its inception, it has focused on stimulating and promoting domestic musical creation. Its foundation became the symphonic orchestra of the same name, the first professional state musical ensemble primarily focused on concert activities. The orchestra began operating under the leadership of prominent conductors Václav Talich and Ľudovít Rajter. During 50 years of concert activity, it collaborated with a number of significant domestic and guest conductors, artists, soloists, and entire artistic collectives. In addition to the symphonic orchestra, other significant artistic ensembles representing the pinnacle of Slovak interpretative art operate within the institution - the Slovak Philharmonic Choir, the Slovak Chamber Orchestra, Musica aeterna, and the Moyzes Quartet, which spread Slovak musical and interpretative culture worldwide through their recordings and participation in foreign festivals and tours.
Obverse side:
On the obverse of the coin is depicted an architectural motif of the plastic decoration of the facade of the Reduta building with allegories of singing and music, creating a concert atmosphere. The motif is complemented by the depiction of the front wall in the Great Concert Hall of the Slovak Philharmonic with organ pipes, with the name of the state Slovak Republic on the sides, at the bottom edge is the designation of the nominal value, the state emblem, and the year of minting.
Reverse side:
On the reverse of the coin is depicted the oriel of the Reduta building, into which the suggested silhouettes of musical instruments are symmetrically incorporated. On the sides is the name Slovak Philharmonic. The letter Ó in the word philharmonic is placed so that it creates the opening of a guitar. Below the oriel are the years 1949 - 1999, indicating the year of the founding of the Slovak Philharmonic and the year of its fiftieth anniversary.
