Specification
On the last day of the year 2000, we bid farewell to the second millennium with grand celebrations and fireworks and entered a new, third millennium. This exceptional milestone in human history is also an appropriate opportunity for reflection.
The development of civilization and knowledge in all spheres of human activity, rapid progress in science and technology bring many positive results. The standard of living of the population is rising, and human life is being extended. However, many problems continue to emerge, related to the threat of misuse of human knowledge, the need for environmental protection, and assistance to the world's poorest countries. We enter the new millennium with the hope that it will be a more humane, tolerant period and that further development will lead to a greater willingness to resolve conflicts peacefully and to increase responsibility for everything we leave to future generations.

Obverse side:
On the obverse of the coin, the main motif is the depiction of the universe. In the center is the representation of the Sun, into which an eye is inscribed using lines as a divine symbol and a symbol of looking into the future. Astrological symbols of planets are placed in the iris of the eye. The composition includes the Earth and some other planets of the solar system, indicating our place in the universe. On the sides of the coin is the name of the state "SLOVAK REPUBLIC" at the top of a triangle divided by the state emblem, below which the year 2001 is indicated. At the bottom of the coin is the designation of the nominal value of 500 Sk.

Reverse side:
On the reverse of the coin is a composition of three hands, inspired by the motif of the creation of Adam from Michelangelo's famous fresco in the Sistine Chapel. The depiction of three hands reaching towards each other expresses the need for cooperation and solidarity of humanity, emphasized by the letters alpha and omega placed between them. On the sides of the coin are the inscriptions NEW MILLENNIUM and the Latin inscription TERTIO MILLENNIO (third millennium).
