Thomas Pesquet is the tenth French astronaut and the first among them to command the International Space Station (ISS). During his two missions in space, Proxima in 2016 – 2017 and Alpha in 2021, he shared his scientific adventure, his daily life on the station, and his photographs of our planet, especially on social media. Thanks to him, millions of people dreamed. His journeys were also a wake-up call; an opportunity to look at Earth with a new perspective, its beauty and fragility. The Monnaie de Paris coin joins Thomas Pesquet in the challenge of taking care of our planet. This collection invites you to follow the astronaut in a state of weightlessness. It pays tribute to the space adventure, which always looks forward to new horizons, but above all to our Earth, beautiful but fragile.

The obverse and reverse sides of this coin complement each other and tell the story of a space odyssey.

On the obverse side, the astronaut bows his head towards Earth. This movement expresses his dedication to our planet, which represents both his origin and his mission. His polished helmet reflects the stars surrounding him. In the distance near Earth, the Moon stands out among the stars, the first target of humanity beyond Earth.

On the reverse side are the planets of the solar system, which have attracted human interest as part of the space odyssey. Earth largely occupies the lower part of the design. Above it orbits the Moon. In the middle of the galaxy of stars, the planets Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn float, connected by lines marked by the path of an exploratory rocket. The Sun extends its rays over the universe from the top right corner of the composition. The nominal value is engraved on the arc of Earth, while the "RF" mark is engraved on the planet.
