Description: The coin depicts part of Basilica B and linear motifs inspired by the border pattern from an ancient Greek mosaic discovered at the site. Along the inner circle of the coin are inscribed the words "ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE OF PHILIPPI" and "HELLENIC REPUBLIC" (in Greek). In the background, the year of issue "2017" is also engraved, and to the right is a palmette (the mark of the Greek mint). At the bottom left is the artist's monogram (George Stamatopoulos). The outer ring of the coin features twelve stars of the European Union flag.
