The American Silver Eagle coins are the official silver coins of the USA. As such, they have the status of legal tender with a nominal value (which is, however, negligible compared to the real value of the coin). The Silver Eagle coins are minted by the US Mint, which also guarantees the purity and weight of the coin. This coin has been minted since 1986 and is thus the oldest state-issued and guaranteed silver coin.

Aesthetically, the Silver Eagles silver coins are considered the most beautiful silver coins in the world. The depiction of "Walking Liberty" on the obverse was designed by the world-renowned designer Adolph A. Weinman in 1916. This design was originally used on silver half dollars from 1916 - 1947. On the reverse is the heraldic eagle from John Mercanti's 1986 design.
