The arrival of the Thessalonian brothers Constantine and Methodius to Great Moravia in 863 is one of the most significant events in our history. Both knew that the greatness of a nation is determined by its culture and education. Therefore, during their mission, they taught, wrote, translated into the Slavic language, and introduced the Slavic liturgy. In 867, at the invitation of Pope Nicholas I, they set out for Rome to achieve the establishment of an independent ecclesiastical province for Great Moravia. On the way, they stopped in Venice, where Constantine defended the Slavic liturgical language before church officials who claimed that the liturgy could only be served in Latin, Greek, and Hebrew. In Rome, they were welcomed by the new Pope Adrian II. In February or March 868, the Pope consecrated the Slavic books, approved the Slavic liturgy, ordained Methodius as a priest, and had several of Constantine's and Methodius's disciples ordained as priests and deacons. The papal approval of the Slavic books and the Slavic liturgy gave the Thessalonian brothers' efforts the highest recognition that could be achieved in Christian Europe at that time.
Obverse side:

The name of the state SLOVAKIA is inscribed at the lower right edge of the coin field, and the designation of the nominal value of the coin 10 EURO is at its upper part. The mark of the Kremnica Mint MK and the stylized initials of the coin's design author Mgr. art. Roman Lugár RL are at the bottom edge of the coin.
