In 2021, Monnaie de Paris launched a series focused on literary styles and authors who have marked literary history in France and abroad. After celebrating poetry in 2021 and theater in 2022, Monnaie de Paris will honor the famous adventure author Alexandre Dumas in 2024 on the occasion of the 180th anniversary of the publication of The Three Musketeers.

The obverse of these collector coins depicts Alexandre Dumas facing his iconic characters: the four musketeers. It seems as if they have turned against him and pointed their swords at the author's nose. On Dumas's shoulder is engraved the famous phrase from the novel: "One for all and all for one." His name and dates of birth and death are engraved at the top and bottom of the coin, and the year of issue is on his collar.

The reverse side is common to the entire "Art of the Quill" series. Several iconic quotes can be read from them, such as Voltaire's "Le mieux est l’ennemi du bien" (The best is the enemy of the good), Dante Alighieri's "Lasciate ogne speranza voi ch'intrate" (Abandon all hope, ye who enter here), William Shakespeare's "To be or not to be: that is the question" or Nietzsche's "Was mich nicht umbringt, macht mich stärker" (What does not kill me makes me stronger). In the center of the coin is engraved a quill, and below it is the name of the series. At the bottom of the coin is the abbreviation "RF" along with the hallmark of Joaquin Jimenez and the engraving workshop.
